About Lake Anna
Lake Anna, Virginia is a 17 mile long lake located in central Virginia between the towns of Fredericksburg, Richmond, Charlottesville and Culpepper. It was created to provide cooling waters for Dominion Power's New Nuclear Power plant, by damming the North Anna river around Bumpass, VA. This created the main lake just above the dam, and 2 main tributaries, at the "splits", approximately 10 miles west of the dam. In 1983, Lake Anna State Park was completed on the north side of the Pamunkey Creek, just above the splits, offering a visitors center, beaches, boat ramps, picnic areas and other ammenities. The entire 17 miles is navigable by boat, except that the upper tributaries have several low bridges crossing it, where only smaller speed boats may get under. The "warm" side of the lake, is totally private, which boaters can access only through property owners. The public side, offers a number of marinas, with ramps, gas and other ammenities. Fishing is the best in the area, offering no less than 30 species of fish. If you wish to vacation at Lake Anna, there are cabins, campgrounds and motels.
